This week wasn’t so good. Caleb decided he wanted to have colic again, after we thought we’d figured out how to lessen it. So I slept a lot. Kaelee is so good about getting up and doing school though. Monday, being a holiday, and having relatives in town meant we didn’t do school. And we didn’t do school on Wednesday either for some reason. So we had a very short week of lessons. I decided this week we would stop doing Trail Guide to World Geography because our atlas just wasn’t cutting it. There isn’t even a section discussing the continents. So until the new atlas comes in the mail from Rainbow Resources we’re not doing geography. I did buy Lively Latin to start up next week. We’ll see how it goes.
Math: After reviewing what’s left of Rod & Staff Math 3, I decided we’ll switch to Singapore for next year. I like R&S, but I think they’re lacking in teaching somethings and Singapore is heavily recommended so I’ve ordered that. R&S worked well for what I wanted it, which is a more student led learning. I needed that for my pregnancy and recovery. I figure we have about a month left of third grade so we’ve caught up pretty quickly.
Science: We’re not really doing science yet, still waiting on our books and to more or less finish up history, but Kaelee has been wanting to do some of the things I ordered. She chose an experiment from her Experiment book about dissolving washing soda, salt, and sugar in water and watching crystals form. It didn’t work so well. The salt worked, but the sugar only attracted insects, and the soda just didn’t work at all. Not sure what went wrong, but she liked checking them all out.
Language Arts: Growing with Grammar is going well. Kaelee’s picking up on everything pretty quickly and seems to be keeping it too. Kaelee wrote a story for writing. I’m impressed with how good the story was, but she’s always been really creative. It’s just the details, like punctuation, we need to work on. She also wrote it pretty well; we’ve been having problems with her handwriting sloping seriously to the left.
Religion: Kaelee’s been whipping through Book of Mormon Discovery. The way she’s going she should be done and ready for level 2 soon. She really likes reading the scriptures. I’m going to need to find something for the Old or New Testament for next year (5th) that’ll keep her interested also.
We really need to get our “extra” school stuff done as well, but for right now, these are all things that Kaelee can do mostly on her own. I’m hoping 4th grade can be more mommy taught again. Hopefully, about the time the house is done, Caleb will be doing better.
